Every bite has a story.

1 Apr

I just read an interesting article that I wanted to share. Whether you eat meat or not, whether you drink cow's milk or soy milk, whether you eat tacos or pizza, whether you eat eggs for breakfast or a bowl of cereal…the food you choose to eat has a story. A path that led it to your plate.

Whole Foods Market posted this article today about following that path and being a smart food buyer. No matter what kind of food you choose to eat, you should know where it's coming from, how it was raised/grown, what types of chemicals (or not) were sprayed on it, and how it got to your grocery store.
I support this initiative 100%. When I decided to go vegan in January, I began reading and researching absolutely everything I could find on living this lifestyle. In the process, I learned a lot about the food industry in America. It scares me. And it motivates me.
If you have any interest whatsoever about what you're putting in your body and how it affects everything on this planet, please read this article and support the efforts of Whole Foods. And, if you haven't already, please watch the movie "Food, Inc." I promise you, it will make you think.

I try to be mindful of what I eat. I find it really annoying that here in Australia I have to buy asparagus that comes from Peru and oranges from the USA. Seems ridiculous.

You mean all your stuff doesn't come from China?! Seems like everything here comes from there. It's ridiculous. I don't want food that travels that far! I'm planting a bigger garden this year so we can have local produce all summer long. Every little bit helps.
